The roots of the modern winery date back to the nineteenth century, to the laws of confiscation of the Mendizabal church lands, when the current owners bought the monastery lands, settled here and began to produce wine.
The Scala Dei winery
The Scala Dei winery has survived since then, undergoing some changes to adapt to each era, such as the conversion from OAO, which took place in 1974. It was then that they became one of the pioneers of the comarca of bottling and labeling in Catalan. In 2000, the Codorníu group became part of an anonymous company with a stake and took over the enological management and distribution of 180,000 bottles sold per year, more than half of which are exported to the United States.
For the leaders of the Scala Dei winery, its main assets are the ninety hectares of vineyards on which they have worked, mostly for over thirty years, and especially all the local red grenache varieties, in addition to carignena, cabernet sauvignon and shiraza. The work in the field and the selection of grapes guarantee the maximum quality of the wines.
As for the visit, it is fully adapted to the level of preparedness of the visitors and allows to discover the production process and the historic premises, with modern renovation and technology of the latest generation. It is possible to combine a visit to the winery with an equestrian tour.
